TOURISTS

LORELLE WILLIAMS

"Home is where the caravan is," said Lorelle Williams.

For eight weeks "home" was at Western Cove where the caravan was parked while she and husband Alan painted a house and shed in return for accommodation and food.

They are "help-exers" with www.helpx.net/ which is a website that brings together "hosts" who offer work, and travelling "helpers" willing to do it.

Hosts advertise themselves on the website with descriptions and photos of the location, accommodation, conditions, and the work they want done.

The website also has "reviews" where helpers give their impression of their hosts, the work, and the accommodation.

Previous to Western Cove, Alan and Lorelle spent ten days doing weeding on a 100-acre property near Normanville (80km south-west of Adelaide), and before that they stayed near Mount Compass (50km south of Adelaide), driving a bulldozer and pruning.

They've been married for 24 years and been travelling and staying with hosts for 2½ years.

They plan to head for Tasmania soon and in 2016 to the UK — HelpX has hosts in over 100 countries including about 4,000 in Australia.

Lorelle finds it an interesting and varied lifestyle with only one downside: "We make new friends everywhere but it's always sad when the time comes to leave them. Here at Western Cove everyone waves to us and we've met most of the neighbours."

Lorelle grew up in country-Victoria but has a house in Perth which is also where her family lives.
